Band Organizes Benefit for Ailing Member

A benefit performance for Fairfield County musician Burt Harrington, who needs a liver and kidney transplant, will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at Rack 'n' Roll, 268 Atlantic St. Proceeds from the event will help with medical and related expenses as Harrington waits for a donor, said fellow Eleven Steps Shy band member Ed Humiston. The group is rallying behind Harrington by organizing the fundraiser, Humiston said.

Harrington, a 53-year-old Greenwich resident, suffers from polycystic liver disease, Humiston said. "It's a hereditary disease. We're establishing a fund to help him financially. He just has incredible medical bills." This is the second time the disease has attacked Harrington, who received a kidney transplant seven years ago, Humiston said.

Harrington is the drummer for Eleven Steps Shy. The independent rock band also features Humiston on bass guitar, Steve Cerulli on lead guitar and vocals, and Kent Troy on guitar and vocals. The band records under the Tall Trees Productions label.

Admission is free to the Stamford fundraiser. A suggested donation of $5 will enter participants into a 50/50 raffle. Other raffles, with prizes such as dinner at a Fairfield County restaurant and theater tickets, will be offered. Proceeds from a CD the group will sell at the event, as well as on iTunes, will benefit Harrington, said Humiston.
