Arts Center Awards Scholarship to Youth

The Stamford Center for the Arts has named Anna Leunis, 14, of Darien, the first winner of a scholarship for young artists. The Emerging Young Artist Scholarship, which is intended to support arts education, comes with a $2,000 prize, according to a press release.

"She is a real achiever and deserves to be recognized," said Anna's teacher, Asya Meshberg in the release. Meshberg is artistic director of the Lumina String Quartet, which is currently conducting the 13th annual Chamber Music Institute for Talented Young Artists. SCA's Summer Arts Infusion Education Program established the institute. Presenting sponsors of the program are RFR Realty and Purdue Pharma.

The institute is a two-week program consisting of private lessons, master classes, chamber music coaching, scheduled practice and rehearsal time, and quartet performances. Anna and other students underwent a competitive audition process to participate.

"We have a long history with Asya Meshberg and the Lumina String Quartet, and we are thrilled to be able to offer this first scholarship to one of their students," said SCA Executive Director Elissa Getto in the release. "Supporting arts education is a top priority for us, and the Chamber Music Institute offers a truly wonderful opportunity for young artists."
