Accused Cop Shooter Held on $2.1M Bond

The man accused of shooting 37-year-old Stamford Narcotics Officer Richard Gasparino in the face Thursday night during a raid on a Lockwood Avenue house was arraigned in Superior Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty.

Ephraim Goitom, 27, of 162 Lockwood Ave. was charged with attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree assault, criminal possession of a pistol, theft of a firearm, two counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, two counts of criminal use of a weapon and numerous drug charges, including operation of a drug factory.

With the courtroom filled to capacity with Stamford police officers, Superior Court Judge Robert Genuario kept Goitom’s bail at $2.1 million and set his next court appearance for Dec. 22.

“Officer Gasparino was released from Stamford Hospital this morning [Friday] and is doing as well as can be expected,” according to Stamford Police Association President Sgt. Joseph Kennedy.

Gasparino, a 10-year veteran who has served with  the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit for four years, was attempting to serve an arrest warrant at the Lockwood Avenue house when he was shot through the door with a .357 magnum pistol.

It is not clear whether a second man detained in the arrest has been charged.
