William Rogers, 71, Lifelong Stamford Resident

STAMFORD, Conn. – William “Bill” Joseph Velez Rogers, 71, a lifelong Stamford resident, died April 11, with family by his side at Stamford Hospital. 

He was born Nov. 6, 1940 in Stamford to Leonora Annuzzi Rogers and William J. Velez, Sr. An avid boater, he was a life member of the Ponus Yacht Club in Stamford. Rogers was also a fourth degree knight of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, having a good laugh and always being the life of the party.

Rogers loved singing oldies and was one of the original "doo-wop boys" of Stamford. He also had a passion for collecting and rebuilding antique cars.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Dawn (Richter) Rogers, two sons William J. (Christyne) Velez III of Trumbull and Chad (Alexis) Rogers of Trumbull, a daughter Dana (Joseph) Thibodeau of Stamford and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother Leanora, his father William Sr., sister Dianne Stradinger, brother Ken Rogers and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Bosak Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Leo’s Parish in Stamford. At the family’s request the interment ceremony will be private.
