On Oct. 5, Stamford will be the backdrop for the second annual Urban Scavenger Race, where teams of two to four people will “race around the city, solving clues, taking on exciting challenges and competing for great prizes.”
People can register for the event on the race’s website at www.scavengerrace.com. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Child Guidance of Southern Connecticut.
The race promotes local businesses, culture and nonprofit organizations, said Samantha Pitera, the event’s organizer. Teams will attempt to visit a total of 15 destinations throughout the city between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Oct. 5. Participants are asked to where costumes to add to the fun.
A similar race is scheduled for New Haven the following weekend on Oct. 12.
“I’ve been a fan of scavenger races for years, but they always seemed to be held in bigger cities,” said Pitera.
In last year’s inaugural event, 50 people participated, many of whom were in costumes, and she hopes to up those numbers this year.
“The more people who participate, the more fun we’ll have,” she said.
The event will begin at about 10 a.m. with the sign-in at Hotel Zero Degrees, 909 Washington Blvd. Then the teams will begin hunting for clues around the city at 11 a.m.
Teams will participate in various challenges and activities along the way, such as taking pictures with certain landmarks. Players are asked to wear comfortable shoes with their costumes, and bring a camera, water, a pen or pencil and other items.
In addition to prizes for the winning participants, there will also be a contest on the best costume.
