Tree Lights Up Jackie Robinson Park

The 16th Annual Jackie Robinson Park of Fame Christmas tree lighting took place Thursday night in a cold but festive atmosphere. Young and old alike came out to see the big spruce lit up in the center of the park.

"This is a special occasion for me because I grew up in that house right over there," Mayor Michael Pavia said.

The Yerwood Scholars warmed up the crowd with "Deck the Halls" and "Jingle Bells" while the crowd celebrated with hot chocolate and doughnuts from the Dunkin Donuts on West Main Street.

In addition to Pavia, state Rep. Pat Billie Miller, Board of Reps members Gloria DePina, Shella Merritt and Valerie McNeil participated in the freezing fun.

Topping off the evening was the appearance of Santa Claus, who spread holiday cheer to the crowd.
