With the wind whipping and the temperature dipping, the first-ever Harbor Point Christmas tree lighting came off without a hitch Monday night to the delight of a large and enthusiastic crowd.
"Harbor Point adds another great dimension to our city, and that makes me very me proud," said a frozen but excited Mayor Michael Pavia as he led a countdown to the tree lighting.
Harbor Point is an 80-acre multiuse development on the Stamford waterfront that is managed by Norwalk-based Building and Land Development.
Just before the tree's lights came alive, fourth- and fifth-graders from the Waterside School belted out traditional Christmas carols between sips of hot chocolate.
With his band of freezing elves jumping for joy, Santa appeared to cap off a festive but cold celebration of lights at Harbor Point.
