Stamford Unveils 9/11 Memorial

STAMFORD, Conn. — A piece of scrap metal emerging from one of the World Trade Center's towers is the image evoked by a monument that serves as Stamford's newest memorial to the 9/11 attacks.

“I wanted to create a memorial that best showcases the piece,” said Kristella Garcia Bosak, creator of the memorial and a monument consultant with the Bosak Funeral Home. The monument was unveiled during a ceremony Friday at Stamford's Government Center.

Engraved in the monument is a quote from Holocaust survivor Eli Wiesel: “To those who died, we remember; to those who survived, we hear you; to future generations, we will never forget.”

The city obtained the piece of metal from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey this past spring. The monument was donated by the Bosak family.

Many city employees, local politicians, Stamford firefighters, Stamford police officers, and family members of victims from 9/11 attended Friday's ceremony. “Despite all of the sadness, all of the grief it is a celebration,” Mayor Michael Pavia said.

Pavia concluded the ceremony by saying the monument is not only meant to honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, but others who lost their lives serving their country in the past decade, such as U.S. Navy SEAL Brian Bill, a Stamford resident.
