STAMFORD, Conn. Pacific Swim Bike Run is the new kid on the retail block in Stamford's Harbor Point area, and, as the name implies, it's a shop tailored for triathletes.
Owner Julie Gabay opened the training/retail facility about six months ago to meet the needs of participants in that grueling sport. A triathlete herself, she started the business knowing there was no place in the area to buy wetsuits, biking outfits, running clothes, bikes and other equipment needed for triathlons.
Youd have to order clothes online and you never know if they were going to fit right, she said.
There are similar outlets in Texas, Florida and other areas of the country where triathlons are more popular, but not many in the northeast, retail director and trainer Jared Gell said. He added that the store is more adapted to New England triathletes than those in the South.
Were something people havent seen before, he said.
The front entranceway is the training area. It's equipped with several treadmills and Vasa Ergometers, which provide cardiovascular workouts. There is also a Computraining station, where cyclists can connect their bikes and race on a simulated course. The machine changes tire pressure to make the experience like riding up and down hills.
But you dont have to be a triathlete to participate, Gabay said. Pacific Swim Bike Run welcomes beginners and those looking to bike without having to worry about cars or the weather, she said.
You can follow Pacific Swim Bike Run on Facebook to hear details about its upcoming events. The shop is located at 575 Pacific St.
