Stamford Readers Get Deals at Friends Book Shop

With Borders Books going out of business in Stamford, readers will soon have to go elsewhere to find a good read. Some, like resident Olivia Just, have found the Friends Book Shop at the Ferguson Library to be a serviceable option.

“We’re still here, and we’re still selling books,” Cynthia Grohoski, the manager of the book shop, says.

All of the books, movies and CD’s are donated to the shop and sold at a discounted price — most items are under $5. While small in size, the shop offers a range of books and media for different age groups and types of readers, Grohoski says.

There are shops located in the Main Branch as well as the Harry Bennett Branch. They are run by volunteers from Friends of the Ferguson Library, and all proceeds go to the library.

The book shops maintain the same hours as the libraries. The main branch is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.  The Harry Bennett Branch is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
