Stamford Museum Honors Volunteers

STAMFORD, Conn. — Sid Horowitz was among more than 170 volunteers the Stamford Museum & Nature Center honored July 19 at its Sixth Annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic.

For his service at the museum, Horowitz was honored by President Barack Obama and received the gold level Presidential Volunteer Service Award. To reach the gold level, a person must volunteer more than 500 hours.

The museum bestowed the honor on 25 others for their service over the past year, Robin Wexler, director of media relations and marketing for the museum, said in an email. The award was established to promote community service and help those in need. It is given to individuals, families and groups who demonstrate outstanding community service throughout the previous year.

In addition to the awards, people also enjoyed hayrides, visited the animals and played games, including horseshoes, volleyball and bingo.
