STAMFORD, Conn. Many Jewish families will be able to sit down for their annual Passover Seder without having to slave over hot stoves for hours on end this year. Stamfords Fairway Market is offering its first-ever Glatt Kosher Catering service for the holiday.
People need the help, and were stepping in, said Rebecca Martin, kosher kitchen chef at Fairway. People have less time to shop and cook, she said, so the market decided to offer the special meal.
The menu is filled with traditional Jewish specialities such as brisket, several types of gefilte fish, and chopped liver. Martin learned many of the recipes from her mother and aunt while growing up. Its just like mom used to make, with a twist, she said of the modern menu choices.
The menu also includes nontraditional items such as five spice Pekin duck with apple chutney for those looking for a change for their Seder.
All of the food on the menu is Glatt Kosher and has been certified by KOF-K Rabbi Avraham Marmostein and Vaad HaKashrus of Fairfield County. Glatt Kosher means that the lungs of the animal were left without adhesions or smooth, which is the translation of the word Glatt, Judaism 101s website said.
In addition to the catering menu, which will soon become a companywide service for Fairway Markets, Martin said there will soon be a kosher deli to go along with the other kosher specialties already offered. The Vaad HaKashrus of Fairfield Countys website advises people to check for certification labels on food in kosher sections before purchasing.
