Stamford Man Thinks Positive About Signs

If you don't think advertising signs work, Peter Warren has some figures that will convince you. "Did you know your car is seen by nine million people each year?" he asks. Whether you want your van wrapped in your business' graphics, or just a small sign to put on your lawn, Warren can do it all from his Sign-A-Rama shop on High Ridge Road in Stamford.

"We can pretty much handle anything," he says of the operation, which includes Warren plus two production people and a designer.

Warren was partners in a sign shop in Huntington, L.I., for six years, then took a two-year "sabbatical" in which he did a lot of rock climbing and paragliding. Wanting to move to Old Greenwich to be with his girlfriend, he decided to open a similar business in the area, but opted to become a franchisee of Sign-A-Rama, the world's largest sign company.

"What's great is if there is something we can't handle, we have access to a whole host of other franchises who can. And they're people you know you can trust," he says.

Although he's only been open since June, Warren's business is hopping and he's constantly on the go, calling on clients and often installing signs for their stores. "If I could be on the road all day I'd be happy," he says. With the political campaign season beginning to heat up, Warren has seen that part of his business growing, in addition to the banners, vehicle work and store front signs.

While Warren feels there's no job that's been technically too tough, he notes that each job presents its own challenge. "The thing is, signs are personal," he says. "Each customer has their own idea of what it should look like, so it has to be 100 percent perfect. And with us, it always is."
