Stamford Man Prizes His Vintage Caddie

Classic automobiles fill the two garages at Ed Greenberg’s  Stamford home. Standing out among them, however, is his Belden Blue 1947 Cadillac Model 62.

“This is a No. 1 car,” Greenberg says. “It will cruise all day long at 70 to 75 miles per hour if that’s what you want to do.”

To catch a glimpse of Greenberg’s prized Caddie, visit the 8th Annual Model T’s to Mustang Car Show at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center on May 7.

Greenberg bought the car from his cousin in the mid-1980s. It needed to be restored, but the frame was solid so Greenberg felt it was worth the investment. After it’s restoration was complete about eight years ago he began showing it off in local car shows, and won “Best in Class” for the ’39 to ’49 category at the Model T’s to Mustang Car Show in 2006.

While all sorts of classic and antique cars will be strutting their stuff at the show, this year’s focus group is the Cadillac — the focus group changes every year to highlight a certain make or model. The Cadillacs will range from 1920s vintage all the way up to the 1980s so people can see the evolution of the vehicle, car show co-curator David Greenberg says.

“The Cadillac of anything is always the best of anything,” says David Greenberg, Ed’s son.

All proceeds from the show will benefit educational programs and galleries at the museum. The event is from 11 to 3 p.m., with a rain date scheduled for Sunday, May 8, at the same time.

Admission for members is: adults $5, Family Plus and Patron members and all children, free; non-members: adults $10, seniors $8, students (18 +) $6, children (4–17) $5, 3 and under, free.
