Stamford Indians to Mark Festival of Lights

STAMFORD, Conn. – Stamford is invited to a celebration of Indian culture later this month during Diwali, India’s Festival of Lights.

There will be entertainment, including Indian dances, singing and a performance on classical Indian instruments by Zunain Halim Khan (sitar) and Amol Khanapurkar (table), and stalls with activities for children, Indian fashions, henna and traditional Indian dishes, a press release said.

The festivities are being sponsored by the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin, Connecticut Chapter, a support group for people of Indian descent. The organization was started in New York in 1989 and the Connecticut chapter was launched 2006, the organization’s website says.

Entrance fee is $45 for adult non-members, $35 for adult members, $15 for children 7-15, and free for children under 7. The event is being held Oct. 22, from 5 to 10 p.m. at UConn Stamford. Parking will be available at the university’s garage across the street on Washington Boulevard
