On Thursday, March 24, Kathleen Silard will be one of hundreds of women Going Red to take a stand against the No. 1 killer of women in America: heart disease. As executive vice president and chief operating officer at Stamford Hospital, as well as the interim CNO, health is something Silard takes seriously.
Stamford Hospital has put a particular emphasis on promoting heart health for women through community outreach and screening, Silard said via email. Her busy schedule precluded her from sitting down for an interview. We recently held a fun-filled event, called Take Heart, which attracted over 200 women to learn more about heart disease. The event included screenings, fitness classes and an opportunity to ask physicians of various medical disciplines questions.
Thursday, Silard will put her packed schedule aside and step out of the office as a member of the Go Red executive leadership team for a luncheon conference at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The luncheons, as part of the Go Red campaign, spread awareness that the one thing most likely to kill women isnt breast or ovarian cancer, its heart disease.
Stamford Hospital is a proud supporter of the American Heart Association and is committed to saving lives through Fairfield and Westchester counties, said Silard. She noted the hospital offers open-heart surgery, primary and elective angioplasty, cardiac rehabilitation, comprehensive cardiac screening and testing and an array of wellness and prevention programs. Integrative medicine therapies are also available for interested parties.
Registration for the Go Red luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich begins at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $200, and table sponsorships are available. The luncheon will include an appearance by Kim Fields, best known for her role as "Tootie" on the sitcom "The Facts of Life." Author, television personality and model Emme will offer the keynote address. Learning sessions will go into the afternoon.
