Stamford Gala Sells Giants Tickets to Buy iPads

There will be some pretty enticing prizes up for grabs at Villa Maria School's spring gala this month, said its auction Chair Debbie Cooney.

Community members can bid on tickets to a New York Giants game, a signed football by Eli Manning and a golf outing for four people at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, to name a few.

Cooney said the Stamford school hopes to garner $100,000 in proceeds from the event and would use the money to help buy its students new iPads.

“We first want to cover the expenses for the event and then focus on bridging that gap in technology,” she said.

The event, Villa Maria on the Avenue, will be held on March 30 at Richards of Greenwich and will feature cocktails, gourmet hors d’oeurves and a silent auction.

For Cooney, planning the gala will function as a send-off for her son Chip, who will be graduating from Villa Maria School this year. As he gets ready to leave, she is showing her gratitude to the school that helped him excel in a learning environment tailored to his academic needs.

“He is dyslexic and now he’s reading and has gained the confidence in school," she said. "He’s ready to graduate."

Villa Maria School is a private day school whose goal is to teach kindergarten through ninth grade students with learning disabilities in a small-classroom setting.

“It’s for kids who don’t fit into a regular learning environment and want to sharpen their skills so they can transition into public school,” Cooney added.
