Counseling Center Honors Strength of the Dragon

STAMFORD, Conn. — Chinese dancers in traditional dress and Asian cuisine highlighted the Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education's celebration of the “Year of the Dragon” as part of its annual “Raise Your Glass, Raise Awareness” fundraiser in Stamford.

“The Chinese Dragon symbolizes power and excellence, valiancy and boldness, heroism and perseverance," Lynn Tusa, the center's director of development, said in a statement. "A dragon overcomes obstacles until success. Survivors of sexual assault embody many of these same traits.”

About 125 guests at the April 26 event enjoyed dinner while the dancers performed, and a each guest also received a memento of the evening from a calligrapher, the release said. There were also silent and live auctions.

The center also honored the state attorney’s office. State’s Attorney David Cohen and Assistant State’s Attorneys Maureen Ornousky and Richard Colangelo were on hand to accept the award, the release said. Cathy Malloy, former executive director of the center and current First Lady of Connecticut, also attended.

Proceeds help support counseling and education services for residents of Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Westport, Weston and Wilton.
