Science Events Kick Off Stamford's Weekend

STAMFORD, Conn. — Hey Stamford, are you looking for something to do this weekend? Here are a few events going on in the city you may want to check out.

Friday, Jan. 20

• 6 p.m.: Enjoy the outdoors with the kids at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center's “Outdoor Adventures: Family Night Hike.” Preregistration is required, and the cost is $5 for non-members and free to members. Call 203-977-6515 or email lmonachelli@stamfordmuseum.org to register.

• 7 p.m.: For those that don’t want to be outdoors, the nature center will also have an astrology night, “The Kepler Space Telescope: Seeking New Planets Around Other Stars.” The program is suitable for children over the age of 5. Tickets are $3 for adult nonmembers, $2 for children nonmembers, and free to members.

Saturday, Jan. 21

• 11 a.m.: The Ferguson Library will allow the little ones to tap into their creative side during “Winter Story Craft.” Kids will get to hear stories about winter, and make and decorate a snow-measuring stick. The event is at the main library downtown and is suitable for children ages 3 1/2 to 8.

• 6:30 p.m.: To keep Stamford’s athletes busy, the Jewish Community Center will hold a 3-on-3 father-and-son basketball tournament for children in grades 6-12. The price is $18 to participate, which includes a food ticket, and T-shirt. Register online at stamfordjcc.org or call the JCC front desk at 203-322-7900. • 7:30 p.m.: See what Snoopy and the rest of the Peanut gang are up to in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” at the Jewish Community Center. Sunday, Jan. 22

• 6 p.m.: The Palace Theatre hosts some of the best young dancers from Fairfield and Westchester counties at the 10th annual DanceFest. Styles include classical ballet, modern, tap and much more. Tickets are $34 for adults and $15 for students, and are all general admission.
