Old Stamford House Set to Spook

STAMFORD, Conn. – Are you looking for a good scare to get primed for Halloween? The Stamford Historical Society will oblige with “True Tales of Horror and Death at Hoyt Barnum House” on Friday.

The historical society will give tours of Hoyt Barnum House and share some grisly and gruesome Stamford stories from the 17th and 18th centuries, a press release said. The house was built in 1699, according to the release.

“After hearing graphic tales of pain, pus, scarring, choking, crushing, burning and witchcraft, you won’t talk about ‘the good old days’ anymore,” Pam Coleman, president of the historical society, said in the press release.

The house’s venerable age ? it’s 312 years old ? makes it a good setting for the horrors people endured, and the cures that were worse than the illnesses they were prescribed to treat, the release said.

Due to the nature of the tours, only adults and children over 12 will be admitted. Tours will be given from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $8 for non-members, $6 for members, and free for anyone who joins the historical society that night, the release said.

The Hoyt-Barnum House is located at 713 Bedford St. Tours will take place on the hour and half-hour. Reservations can be made by calling 203-329-1183.
