STAMFORD, Conn. The Stamford community came out to support Madonna Badger and her family Monday as neighbors and others walked by to catch a glimpse of the Shippan site where a fire Sunday claimed the lives of her three children and her parents.
I cant imagine what she is going through, Shippan Avenue resident Cynthia Littlejohn said as she and her daughter, Megan, stood across the street from the house. Littlejohn said she lost a daughter two years ago just before Thanksgiving.
Its faith-challenging, Littlejohn said.
Fire marshals demolished the home Monday.
I dont know how you move on from this it is an unspeakably sad situation, said Chris Malloy, a Stamford Avenue resident. He did not know the Badgers, but he grew up with people who lived in the house before them.
Karen Murphy, a resident of the Shippan Point area, could barely put her thoughts into words as she and her sister Kathleen Murphy walked their dogs by the house. How the kids didnt get out, I dont know, Murphy said as she began to cry.
In addition to seeing the wreckage after the fire, neighbors also prayed and dropped off flowers by Badgers mailbox. Support pages have been created on Facebook for Badger, including To Help Madonna Badger, and Support Madonna Badger & Family.
Badger, the owner of the home, and her friend, Michael Borcina, were rescued from the fire and taken to Stamford Hospital. Badger was released Monday morning, and Borcina is in stable condition, officials at the hospital said.
The fire took the lives of Badgers three daughters, Lilly, 10, and twins, Sarah and Grace, 7, as well as her parents Lomer and Pauline Johnson, who live in Southbury. The names are as they appear in the Stamford Advocate.
The investigation is led by Stamfords fire marshals, who say they will give more details about the fire at a news conference Tuesday evening.
