Lyme Group Needs Help Planning Gala

Greenwich-based Time for Lyme is hosting a kick-off meeting for its 2011 Gala event and wants you to be part of the cause.

"Our co-presidents will be there to talk about the theme, which is 'Illusions of Lyme,' " said David Martin, executive director. "Lyme disease itself is a bit of an illusion because it can mask itself as many different things."

The meeting will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Hilton Hotel in Stamford. It will offer an opportunity to meet the event planners, learn about the cause and help make the gala a success.

The biannual event is a major revenue source for the group, which is dedicated to eliminating Lyme disease through research and education. Lyme's is a tick-borne infectious disease characterized by a rash with joint swelling, fever and headaches. If left untreated, it can cause infection in the joints, heart or nervous system.

"This will be an exciting program because we have an interesting show planned along with the usual gala," said Martin. To get this inside scoop on the "show" and the plans for the gala, RSVP to the meeting by e-mailing timeforlyme@aol.com or calling (203) 969-1333.

The event is slated for April 2, 2011, from 7 to 11:30 p.m. at the Stamford Hilton.
