Lawmakers Praise Stamford Technology Firm

STAMFORD, Conn. — The following is a letter from State Reps. Livvy Floren, (R-149), and Michael Molgano (R-144). The Daily Stamford welcomes the opinions of its readers. Send letters to the editor to reporter Anthony Buzzeo at tbuzzeo@TheDailyStamford.com.

Today, between the Internet and mobile devices, people expect to have access to what they want to see, when and where they want to see it. One Stamford-based company has made it possible for sports fans to get live coverage of games and events for Major League Baseball, and by ESPN for NCAA college football and the FIFA World Cup.

LiveClips has tapped into a market growing by leaps and bounds, which fortunately means that they, too, have grown, tripling their staff since March of this year. LiveClips is furiously building their network to soon include additional broadcasters and sports leagues. They are also looking into the possibility of developing several fantasy sports league offerings.

This week, LiveClips has received a $1 million investment from Connecticut Innovations (CI) as a reward for the cutting-edge business they do in Connecticut. CI, the state’s quasi-public authority responsible for technology investment and innovation, made the investment through its Eli Whitney Fund.

LiveClips has enabled the sporting world to compete with the speed of social networks like Facebook and Twitter by delivering live events to fans via any Internet-enabled or mobile device, such as smartphones, tablets and personal computers, and this kind of investment in their infrastructure will allow them to continue leading the pack on these sport applications.

It is great to see our state invest in successful companies, especially when it will keep them on the forefront of an industry that makes great strides every day
