Laser Treatment Scores for Tennis Player

STAMFORD, Conn. -- The shoulder discomfort Beth Eiseman felt while playing tennis was familiar. The tennis buff had felt it before, except this time she didn’t know it would keep her off the court for a while.

“It was very subtle at first, and as I kept playing it just felt like it was getting worse,” Eiseman said. “That's when I got treatment.”

Eiseman had been playing tennis three to four times a week before she discovered she had bursitis, inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that help joints function, in her shoulder. She'd had the condition before, but recovered from it with rest. When the injury did not go away this time, she turned to physical therapy, but that failed to relieve her discomfort. What did end up helping was a laser treatment offered by Stamford Healthcare Associates.

The treatment, administered by Dr. Beverley Marr and Dr. J. Christopher Sova, included focusing a cold laser on Eiseman’s shoulder to stimulate the cells and relieve inflammation. Eiseman also received massage therapy during treatment.

“Honestly, it took a few months,” Eiseman said of her recovery. “Bursitis can be kind of a nagging injury. A few months was actually relatively quick.”

Eiseman said the shoulder feels great and that her tennis game is “really coming along," and her serve recovered as quickly as her shoulder.
