Jose Velez, 72, Worked at Clairol in Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Jose Luis Velez, 72, a longtime Stamford resident, died April 6 at Stamford Hospital. 

He was born Feb. 9, 1940, in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, to Paula Roman and Alonso Velez. He worked for Clairol Inc. for many years as a line checker. Velez loved his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. 

Velez also enjoyed spending time with his friends, having a good laugh and playing a spirited game of dominoes. A lifelong baseball fan, he was a die-hard New York Yankees fan.  

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maximina Quiles Velez; four children, Jose L. Velez Jr. and wife Carmen of West Haven, Maxi Yvette Negron of Stamford, Marisol Christie and husband Stephen of Trumbull, and Luis A. Velez of Stamford; and seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He is also survived by four brothers, Bernardino, Santiago, Antonio and Adolfo Velez; two sisters, Margarita Velez and Minerva Calderon Velez; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Velez was predeceased by his stepmother, Maria Velez; and three brothers, Otilio, Felipe and Paulino Velez. 

The family will receive visitors from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bosak Funeral Home. A prayer service will take place at 7 p.m. A graveside burial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Stamford.
