Said, who has lived in Stamford, turns 52 on Thursday. The race car driver was born Sept. 18, 1962, in New York, N.Y.

He began racing with the SCCA in 1987 and was named SCCA Rookie of the Year in 1988. In 1991, he began driving for Baer Racing, later to become Baer Brake Systems.

He got another big ride driving in the IMSA series in 1993 with a BMW M3. He won the 1997 and 1998 editions of the 24 Hours of Daytona and 1998 race of 12 Hours of Sebring in IMSA.

He also became the first American to win the 24 Hours Nürburgring in 2005 driving a BMW Motorsport-entered BMW M3 GTR with co-drivers Pedro Lamy, Duncan Huisman and Andy Priaulx.

He was also invited as an At-Large RallyCar entry for the X Games XIII at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles in 2007. Said was joined by American rally car racing legend John Buffum as his co-driver.

He competed for the PTG Racing Group in the 2000 season, driving a BMW M3 in the GT Category, and won the Laguna Seca Round. He was listed as a driver on the 24 Hours of Le Mans LM GTE Am class entry of Robertson Racing in 2011.

He ran the road courses in 2012, and ran again as a road course ringer for FAS Lane Racing. He continued to run for the team, now renamed Go FAS Racing, in 2014.
