Geraldine Nuzzo, 84, of Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. – Geraldine "Gerri" DeFeo Nuzzo, 84, of Stamford and Clearwater, Fla., died March 20 at Cypress Palms Assisted Living in Largo, Fla. A memorial service in Stamford will be announced at a later date.

She was born in Avellino, Italy, on Sept. 24, 1927, to Carmine and Alfonsina (Vitale) DeFeo. After emigrating from Italy, Nuzzo was raised in Mount Vernon, N.Y. She graduated from A.B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon and was employed in New York before marrying and moving to Virginia.

Nuzzo subsequently settled in Stamford, where she raised her family. An extraordinary cook and baker, she had a creative flair that could be seen throughout her home. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening and painting. For many years, Nuzzo delighted in a good game of tennis and a competitive round of bridge or mahjong. She always loved walks on the beach in Sand Key and watching the sunsets from her balcony.

She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine A. Nuzzo, of Stamford, and Donna (Greg) Nuzzo-Mueller of Boston; a son, Daniel R. (Patty) Nuzzo, Jr., of Vancouver, Wash.; and four grandchildren. Nuzzo is also survived by a brother, Gaetano DeFeo, of Trumbull. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in July of 2009.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th Fl., New York, NY 10001.
