Free Stamford Yoga Classes Promote Healing

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Yoga instructor Carol Shwidock is offering to teach Stamford residents a way to heal—for free. She will give four lessons in restorative yoga to help those overcoming an illness regain their energy.

“It’s not about asking your body to do more,” Shwidock said in a press release. “It’s about undoing.”

Restorative yoga gently stretch the joints as blood pressure and heart rate go down, helping the body relax, the release said. It can also help build muscle, improve digestion and improve immunity, the release said. Anyone, despite body type, can participate.

The free classes are made possible by a stipend Shwidock from ProMindful. The nonprofit organization promotes mindfulness, holistic health and wellness.

The first of the classes begins Sunday, July 10. Each will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at Shwidock’s Harmony Yoga studio, 48 Union St., Stamford.

For more information about Shwidock and Harmony Yoga, visit the studio's website. To register for one of the free classes, call Harmony Yoga at (203) 967-4672. Registration is requested as there are only 20 spots available for each class.
