Dora Gerardi, 98, Stamford Deli Worker

NORWALK, Conn. – Dora Gerardi, 98, of Stamford died April 12. 

Born in Calabria, Italy, on Jan. 1, 1914, she was the daughter of Alfredo and Nicolina Geregetano.  Gerardi immigrated to the U.S. as a young child. She worked as a seamstress until she married Daniel Gerardi, owner of Dan's Korner Store on Liberty Street.  Gerardi then worked at the counter, as well as preparing some of the food items at home. 

She also volunteered at Sacred Heart Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Alter Society and a lifelong parishioner all her life, taking care of collection envelopes and other office chores. 

Gerardi enjoyed reading long novels, attending Broadway shows and music by Frank Sinatra. She is remembered by family for the many holiday gatherings at her home on Bridge Street. She loved sewing and would hand craft coats, dresses and other clothing for her grandchildren and family. 

She is survived by a daughter Annette (Louis) Benedetto, son Bart (Cookie) Gerardi, sister Jean, eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Gerardi was predeceased by three brothers Anthony, Dominick and Albert, and sister Vera. 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Darien. Relatives and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home in Stamford on Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m.
