Danny's Cycles Shutters Westchester Store

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. – Danny’s Cycles moved out of the Cortlandt Town Center Friday, leaving nothing but a Panera Bread and Subway sandwich shop in the building it once occupied. The decades-old bicycle cited a poor location when it left.

“It wasn’t very much left in there, it just wasn’t the right location for us," said Steve Kahn, owner of Danny’s Cycles. "We’re looking around and weighing our options for what else to do, but we couldn’t survive very well in that particular spot.”

Danny’s Cycles still maintains locations in Scarsdale, Manhattan and Stamford, Conn. Kahn said the company is considering opening a location in Rye. The bike shop sells new and used road bikes and mountain bikes and Kahn said the shop will continue to honor maintenance warranties on bikes sold at the Cortlandt location.

“I would say that I don’t think we’re done in northern Westchester, we’re just going to have a pow-wow and figure how to do something different in the future," he said. "But we still have Scarsdale and Stamford, Conn. and then we’ll have Rye.”

He said the company has been very successful in Manhattan. Kahn said the company is considering working with another local bike maintenance provider so northern Westchester residents can have their bikes serviced closer to home.

Multiple calls to Acadia Realty, the company that manages the property, were not returned.
