STAMFORD, Conn. Stamford will groove back to the '60s on Friday when Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Felix Cavaliere hits the Palace Theater stage with his band Felix Cavalieres Rascals. The occasion is Stamford Education 4 Autisms 5th Annual Concert for Autism.
The Pelham, N.Y., musician says he is looking forward to the concert not just for the opportunity to perform but because autism is an issue that is dear to him. Cavaliere says he has close friends with children with an autism spectrum disorder, and he wants to contribute for their sake.
When it is close to you, you have to see what you can do to help, Cavaliere said in a phone interview.
Cavaliere is the only remaining member of the foursome that produced hits like Good Lovin and People Got to Be Free. He said that while some of those oldies will be heard Friday, the performance will mainly be a musical picture from that time.
Opening for Cavaliere is Stamfords Jerry Pia and SlikStuff. In addition to the bands regular playlist, it will premiere Just Call My Name, which Pia wrote especially for children with autism, the Stamford Education 4 Autism website said.
Stamford Education 4 Autism was formed in 2007 and works with the schools to help austism spectrum disorder classrooms get needed supplies. It is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit-organization.
The event is Friday, Oct. 28, at the Palace Theater, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 o'clock start time. Tickets can be purchased at the Palace Theaters box office online or by calling 203-325-4466.
For more information about the fundraiser, contact the organization by email or by calling 203-322-9767. Sixties attire is optional, the organizations poster said.
