STAMFORD, Conn. Carolyn "Carol" Elinsky Guyer of Stamford died May 1 after a long illness. She was 76.
A retired flight attendant, Guyer volunteered for the Girl Scouts, Stamford Hospice and Trinity Episcopal Church in Stamford. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's Church in Stamford.
Guyer was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Culver, Pa., to Helen and Tas Elinsky. She worked as a stewardess for Pan Am Airways when she met her husband, Ervin, a retired pilot for Phillip Morris.
As a stewardess, Guyer flew special charter flights serving such dignitaries as President John F. Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as celebrities suhc as Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner. After retiring, she worked a flight attendant instructor for many years.
Guyer became a full-time mother, homemaker and volunteer. She led many fundraisers, including fashion shows and other events for charity. Guyer and her family were members of Shore and Country Club in East Norwalk, where she coordinated and chaired many of the club's social functions. The family previously belonged to Cove Island Boat Club in Stamford.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, and many of her recipes were featured in Trinity Church's published cookbook, "Treats from Trinity."
Survivors, in addition to her husband, Ervin, are a daughter, Cynthia Guyer, of New York City; a son, Edward Guyer, of Stamford; and three sisters, Rose Brygidyr, of Islip, N.Y., Ann Barclay, of Detroit, and Anastasia "Nancy" Rashid of Girard, Ohio. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Helen; and three brothers, Michael, George and Nick.
Memorial donations can be made to Stamford Hospice. Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
