Band Jam, an all-abilities musical group from Greenwich and Stamford and special guests the Swingset Mamas, rocked the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich for the Abilis Family Rock Show.
The band, organized by the family resources program of Abilis, featured 15 young people ages 13 to 25 at the Feb. 4 event held at the church. The band played instruments and performed such hit songs as Queens We Will Rock You.
The Swingset Mamas brought the guests to their feet with its high-energy, family-friendly interactive show. Lizzie Swan of Stamford and Marlowe Bechmann of Michigan, two moms who promote inclusion and ability awareness through their music, lead the group. Band Jam members and their families packed the dance floor while the Mamas performed.
The rock show was the second in a yearlong series of events commemorating the 60th anniversary of Abilis, a nonprofit organization that supports people of all ages in Greenwich and Stamford with autism, Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
Bobby Laman directed the Family Rock Show for Abilis. Performers included Karl Arezzini, Sarah Best, Andrew Burbank, Danny Clarke, Hallie Corba, May Hayashida, Matthew Jaffe, Claire Howlett, Elissa Miolene, Eytan Nisinzweig, Caroline Pannone, Diego Rabellino, Anna Schlessinger, Westin and Zayne Sibley, Will Smit, Brett Sottosanti, Karen Walker and Sam Wise.
