STAMFORD, Conn. Nearly 800 Stamford children will be able to get a free book when they attend either a story time or book discussion event at the Ferguson Library this fall and winter, thanks to a donation from KPMG, LLC, a library news release said.
Borrowing books from the library allows children to be exposed to a wide variety of stories, but owning a book is a special gift that young readers can return to over and over again, Caroline Ward, youth services coordinator for the Ferguson Library, said in the release.
The 800 book donation was made through the KPMG Family for Literacy program, which was started in 2007 to provide books for children of low-income families, the release said. The program has donated more than 2 million new books in the U.S. since its start.
Since the story time and book discussion programs are geared toward infants through 10 year olds, this is a wonderful opportunity for KPMG to support literacy for the first 10 years of a childs life, Ken Seel, managing partner for the audit, tax and advisory firms Stamford office, said in the release.
