'42nd Street' to Come to Stamford Stage Friday

STAMFORD, Conn. — Stamford’s Curtain Call will be giving theatergoers a backstage look into life on Broadway with the Tony Award-winning play “42nd Street,” starting this Friday.

The play tells the story of a director trying to produce a big musical production during the height of the Great Depression, and a stage-struck newcomer that becomes a star, a press release from Curtain Call said. It also features a number of hit songs, “so you’re bound to leave the theatre humming,” said Lou Ursone, the executive director of the theater.

Leading the group of local actors will be Al Recchia, directing his first Curtain Call performance, with music director Eric Johnson and choreographer Shannon Courtney Egan, the release said.

The show will play in the Kweskin Theatre at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays from June 1-30, with two Thursday performances at 8 o.m. June 21 and 28. Ticket prices are $28 for adults, $20 for senior citizens, $14 students/children and $18 for special Thrifty Thursday prices for all seats. They can be purchased by phone, 203-461-6358 or online.
