Xavier Dash, 36, who was wanted on an assault with a firearm for a shooting in Bridgeport, was arrested in Stamford on Thursday, Nov. 14, police said.
Stamford Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin said the department's narcotics and organized crime unit tracked Dash down after Bridgeport police reached out to say he could be in the town.
After an investigation, they found him sitting in a car at the Connecticut Department of Social Services at 1642 Bedford Street in Stamford around 3 p.m.
Detectives, with the help of the patrol unit, boxed the car in and identified Dash, who surrendered without incident. Officers found a 9mm pistol in the center console and his baby in the vehicle, Conklin said.
Investigators believe the gun could be the one Dash allegedly used in the Bridgeport shooting. Conklin said it was turned over for ballistics testing.
The baby was given to the custody of his mother, who was inside the building at the time of Dash's arrest, he added.
Dash was on parole for a prior offense and has four years left on that sentence, Conklin said. Police arrested him on the outstanding warrant, but more charges are expected.
A judge ordered Dash held on a $500,000 bond and revoked his parole, Conklin said.
