“I was supposed to go see them at The Capitol a couple of months ago but couldn’t so I’m excited to see them now,” concertgoer Alec Sachs said Thursday from the ticket line at Stamford’s perennial summer concert series held in Columbus Park.
Thousands turned out to see the free show with O.A.R. despite the rain. After a short downpour, the skies cleared as O.A.R. opened the show. The rain didn't dampen the enthusiasm or the size of the crowd at the popular summer event in downtown Stamford.
The 2016 outdoor concert series, sponsored by Stamford's Downtown Special Services District, kicked off with O.A.R., which formed in Rockville, Md., in 1996. O.A.R., an acronym for Of A Revolution, is known for its Top 20 hits "Love and Memories" and "Heard the World."
Later this summer, Hanson, Third Eye Blind, Eric Hutchinson, Easton Corbin and CeeLo Green will take the stage. The series continues each Thursday until Aug. 11 -- rain or shine.
While the concert series had been open to all ages in past years, Thursday's concert was the first time the crowd was limited to those 21 years old and up.
