Stamford Theater Company Holding Auditions For 'Fiddler'

STAMFORD, CONN. -- If you are a rich man, or at least want to play one on stage, then Stamford's Curtain Call, Inc.'s production of "Fiddler on the Roof" may be for you.

Stamford's longest-running and only year-round producing theater company is having auditions Aug. 26-27 for its fall production of "Fiddler on the Roof." 

Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. each night in the Kweskin Theatre, 1349 Newfield Ave., Stamford.

The show will be directed by Gordon Casagrande, with music direction by Greg Chrzczon and choreography by Karen Casagrande. Rehearsals will begin in mid-September for a production that runs Nov. 15 through Dec. 14.

"Fiddler on the Roof" is a large-cast, ensemble musical with many roles available. The group is looking to cast the following roles:

  • Golde, Tevye’s wife, mezzo, 40 – 55.
  • Tzeital, Tevye’s eldest daughter, mezzo, 18 – 25.
  • Hodel, Tevye’s second daughter, mezzo, 17 - 24.
  • Chava, Tevye’s third daughter, mezzo, 16 – 23, has a solo dance.
  • Shprintze, Tevye’s fourth daughter, 10 – 16.
  • Bielke, Tevye’s youngest daughter, 8 – 14.
  • Motel, a meek tailor, tenor, 18 – 27.
  • Perchik, student revolutionary, tenor, 21 – 30.
  • Fyedka, a Russian soldier,21 – 32, mainly a speaking role, dancer.
  • Lazar Wolf, a wealthy butcher,baritone, 35 – 55.
  • Yente, gossipy matchmaker, alto, 50 – 75.
  • Constable, Russian military official, 30 – 45, speaking role.
  • Fruma-Sarah, ghost of Lazar’s first wife,mezzo, 30 – 45, will also double as a villager.
  • Grandma Tzeitel, ghost of Golde’s grandmother, mezzo, 65 – 85, will also double as a villager.
  • Avram, a bookseller, baritone, 30 – 60.
  • Mendel, the Rabbi’s son,baritone, 16 – 25.
  • Rabbi, baritone, 45 – 79.
  • Mordcha, the innkeeper, 30 – 60.
  • Nachum, the town beggar, 40 – 65.
  • Yussel, the town hatter, 25 – 60.
  • Shaindel, Motel’s mother, 40 – 60.
  • The Fiddler, 18 – 40.
  • Sasha, Fyedka’s friend, 18 – 30, dancer.
  • Villagers, men, women and children (ages 10 and older).
  • Bottle Dancers, 16 – 40, male villagers who perform the Bottle Dance (Avram, Mendel and Yussel can double as bottle dancers).
  • Russian soldiers (including Sasha), 16 – 40, one has a short solo – all must be able to dance.

The role of Tevye has been cast. As can be seen from the above, male dancers are very important parts of the cast.
