The new race will take place along with the seventh annual Olympic-distance Navigators Stamford KIC IT Triathlon on Sunday, June 22. The fourth annual Navigators Stamford KIC IT Kids Triathlon takes place the day before, on Saturday, June 21. All three triathlons will benefit Kids in Crisis. The new USAT-sanctioned race will start with the 0.8k (0.5 mile) swim at Cummings Beach in Stamford. It will follow the same (but shorter) pattern of the Olympic Triathlon swim. The 22k (13.9 mile) bike course will roll through backcountry Stamford along with the excitement of downtown. The 5.1k (3.2 mile) run will be a speedy jaunt throughout the city.
“Adding the sprint distance provides opportunities for more athletes to experience the challenge and fun of racing as well as to help raise awareness and funds for Kids in Crisis,” said Jeff Palma, Navigators Stamford KIC IT Committee member, Kids in Crisis Board member, and chief market strategist at GE Asset Management. Racers, their families, and the public are all invited to the free Family Festival after the Sunday races, which will take place at Mill River Park in downtown Stamford.
The new sprint triathlon has unique opportunities for athletes who choose to raise funds, including race day valet parking, personal assistants to help with bike and gear, discounts and freebies from training facilities and physical therapy studios, and more. Athletes can learn more about the sprint triathlon and register as racers or athlete fund-raisers at www.kicittriathlon.com.
