FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Daily Voice readers had a lot of fun this year choosing winners in popular food categories across Fairfield County as part of our ongoing DVlicious contest.

The contests included:

  • Pizza
  • Burgers
  • Wings
  • Sushi
  • Ice cream
  • Farmers Market
  • Sports Bar

First, readers gave us the names of their personal favorites. Those names were then whittled down to five finalists. There was good-natured rivalry, with the competing restaurants urging their customers to vote for them.

The 2015 winners in Fairfield County, decided by Daily Voice readers, included:

PIZZA: Beverly Pizza House in Bridgeport proves that longevity breeds success and an amazing pizza. The pizza joint located at 2969 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, has been in business for 51 years. Known for their pan pizza, Beverly's pepperoni and plain slices are also popular.

Their key to success is making everything in-house, using the same consistent methods that have kept generations of customers coming back for more than five decades, says Owner Chris Katsetos.

WINGS: Vinny's Backyard, at 1078 Hope St., Stamford, was the winner, or should we say "WINGer," with its seven flavors and 50-cent wings on Wednesdays.

SUSHI: Fairfield's Fin, which has a second location, Fin II, in Stamford, offers fresh, imaginative sushi at moderate prices. Patrons love the generous cuts and the online ordering system.

BURGERS: Bogey's Grille & Tap Room, which moved this year to Norwalk after Hurricane Irene flooded its home in Westport, has the perfect patty.

ICE CREAM: Timothy's Ice Cream in Bridgeport scoops up good quality ingredients with a l6 percent butterfat content. The secret? "We churn it slowly," explained Owner Timothy Larkin.

FARMERS MARKETS: When it came to buying fresh produce in an open-air setting, readers couldn't settle on just one. The two winners are the veterans at the Westport Farmers Market and the upstarts at the new Black Rock Farmers Market.

SPORTS BAR: The Lumberyard Pub in West Redding is a favorite place for sports fans to enjoy 21 flavors of wings, 12 taps of local brews while watching the action on 13 HDTVs.
