The employees will be volunteering for the “Social Night of Service,” an event held by New Covenant Center in which employees from local businesses contribute their time and energy to help out at its new Stamford facility. Darien Rowayton Bank will visit NCC on Tuesday, March 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., cooking for hungry guests.
“We have about 30 employees who have volunteered to prep meals,” said Kaye Leong, assistant treasurer and business development officer for Darien Rowayton Bank and board member of New Covenant Center. “It’s a great opportunity for our employees to have some fun and bond together as a team while giving back to the community.”
The group will be preparing meals for 150 guests that will be served the following day at the cafe. “I’m excited to be able to bring employees from our different locations to participate in this great team building experience that benefits a wonderful cause.”
NCC provides music, food safety instruction and any other assistance the group may need. “The idea is to create a social environment, so when volunteers are not cooking, they can socialize, have a glass of wine and enjoy themselves” said David Lovegreen, volunteer coordinator at New Covenant Center.
Social Night of Service is one of a number of volunteer programs available at NCC. Their primary fundraiser is the upcoming Celebrity Breakfast on Wednesday, April 19th at the Woodway Country Club with Donna E. Shalala, president of the Clinton Foundation as the featured speaker. All proceeds benefit NCC serving the disadvantaged of lower Fairfield County. For more information on the Celebrity Breakfast, click here.
NCC serves hot meals twice a day, 365 days a year. Including the breakfast program and food pantry, it provides more than 700,000 meals a year. The new facility includes an efficient and modern kitchen, a dining area, expanded food storage area and refrigeration, a food pantry area, a barber shop, medical room, a laundry room, a shower, social media/computer room, and consultation rooms.
If you wish to volunteer at NCC or organize a Social Night of Service with your friends, family or co-workers, contact David Lovegreen at 203-964-8228 extension 416.
