The event is from 5:30-9 p.m. Sept. 12. Tickets are $200, but there is a special price of $150 available for Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s adult volunteers.
This year, Girl Scouts of Connecticut is honoring Jeanette Horan, IBM’s chief information officer. Emmy-award winning journalist and New York Times best-selling author Diane Smith will serve as emcee for the event, which will include a silent auction and an opportunity for those who attend to share their Girl Scout story via video recording.
The Woman of Merit award recognizes leaders who demonstrate the Girl Scout values of leadership, personal achievement, and service to the community.
It is given in honor of Alice Pattison Merritt, an extraordinary public leader who became the first woman elected to the Connecticut Senate and who was instrumental in bringing Girl Scouting to Connecticut.
“For our 20th Anniversary Woman of Merit dinner, we’re hoping to see many old friends while making some new ones during an evening of celebration,” Mary Barneby, the chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of Connecticut said in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to honor Jeanette Horan for her amazing technological accomplishments while celebrating partnerships with our community friends and Girl Scout supporters. It is these partnerships that make the world a better place.”
The proceeds from the dinner will support programming that helps girls in grades K-12 bring out the best in themselves and their communities. Approximately 30 percent of Girl Scouts in Connecticut live in Fairfield County.
Girl Scouts aims to provide girls the lifetime skills they need to discover their personal best; connect with others to build healthy relationships; and take action in their communities to make the world a better place.
