Swimmers Hit The Sound For Swim Across America In Stamford, Greenwich

STAMFORD, Conn. -- Swimmers found sunny skies, warm temperatures and ideal weather for Saturday’s Swim Across America Greenwich-Stamford.

The event aises funds for cancer research in an effort to make waves to defeat cancer. Proceeds from the swim will supportAlliance for Cancer Gene Therapy, the nation’s only foundation dedicated exclusively to funding cancer gene therapy research. The 2015 event raised more than $350,000 for the Alliance.

Since the event started in 2007, more than $3 million has been raised for the Alliance. Team Julian, whose members swam in honor of former Greenwich High swimmer Julian Fraser, led fundraising teams with more than $85,000 raised. Fraser was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer earlier this year.

Peter Carlson, who swam in honor of three friends who have cancer, raised more than $22,000 and was the top individual fundraiser. Carlson is the President of Carlson & Carlson Insurance in Greenwich.

Swimmers chose among half mile, 1.5 mile and 3 mile options. They started and finished at Cummings Beach in Stamford.
