Stamford's Avon To Show 'Women Of Folk Music'

STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Avon Theatre in Stamford will pay tribute to female folk singers and musicians with a screening of "Women of Folk Music" on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7:30 p.m.

The movie pays tribute to female folk singers and shows performances from such artists as Mary Travers of Peter Paul & Mary, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian, Buffy Saint Marie, Odetta, Linda Ronstadt and more. 

The footage is from archived rare concert films, television performances, promo films and studio rehearsals.

Ticket prices are $6 for members, $8 for students & seniors: $8 and $11 for nonmembers. Carte Blanche members can attend at no charge. 

The event will be hosted by Bill Shelley, whose company has 100,000 reels of original 35mm and 16mm films in its archives and more than 10,000 hours of rare concerts, television shows, promos, interviews, out-takes and home movies.

The Avon Theatre is located at 272 Bedford St. in Stamford.
