STAMFORD, Conn. -- Stamford Symphony is offering a special deal for concertgoers at its Saturday, Nov. 15 performance.

For a special price of $80 (including a premium seat orchestra concert ticket), concertgoers will be able to mix and mingle for casual pre-concert cocktails and light dinner in the Upper Lobby at the Palace Theatre in Stamford prior to enjoying the concert.

Concerts on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3 p.m.  feature Ilya Kaler, the only violinist to win all three of the most prestigious violin prizes in the world. This skilled artist has been quoted by the Washington Post as “a consummate musician, in total control at all times, with a peerless mastery of his violin.” He will be performing Sibelius’ "Violin Concerto in D minor."

Kaler is one of the most outstanding personalities of the violin today, whose career ranges from that of a soloist and recording artist to chamber musician and professor. Kaler's orchestral career includes guest concertmaster appearances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and Baltimore Symphony.

In addition, this concert will feature Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 that was influenced by Tchaikovsky’s frequent bouts of depression and self-doubt.  Also featured, will be a piece by composer Tan Dun called "Self Portrait of Death and Fire" that is based on a dialogue that the composer has with a piece of art by Paul Klee on exhibition.

Kaler will join Music Director Eckart Preu on the stage for an intimate chat one hour pre-concert at the free Behind the Baton Lecture. In addition, Kaler will also make an appearance and participate in a Q&A with the children at the interactive MusiKids program (free to all concert-going kids at 2 pm. on Sundays).

Single tickets are available at the symphony box office, by calling 203-325-4466 and via the web at
