The food bank serves Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, Norwalk, New Canaan and Wilton. Organizers say hunger is a serious problem in the area.

Kicking off at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, the run walk starts and ends at Chelsea Piers Connecticut, 1 Blachley Road, Stamford.

The 5K USATF-certified course travels through Stamford and Cove Beach Park roadways. Stamford Mayor David Martin will officially start the event.

Organizers said this is the only run walk in Fairfield County that specifically supports hunger, and 100 percent of the event net proceeds goes to the food bank.

The entry fee is $30 per adult plus three nonperishable food items and $15 per child (ages 7 to 15) plus one nonperishable food item. There is no charge for children 6 and younger.

Teams are encouraged, and the team that raises the most money will be recognized. The first 250 registered participants will receive a T-shirt, race bib, goody bag and finisher’s medal.

Prizes will be awarded to overall winners and first, second and third place age group winners, male and female. Beth Foster, Star 99.9 Midday Host, will serve as the announcer.
