New Art Installation To Light Up Stamford

STAMFORD, Conn. — The city will have its first look at the state-funded art installation Stamford Lights on Saturday at the Stamford Transportation Center.

“The illumination display will provide an exciting and welcoming entrance to the STC. It will be visible from multiple points in the city and from Interstate 95, to serve as a beacon marking the center of Stamford,” Mayor Michael Pavia said in a news release.

“Studies have shown that outdoor art installations attract visitors, improve local business viability and public safety, and bring diverse people together,” Kip Bergstrom, deputy commissioner of the state’s Department of Economic and Cultural Development, said in the release.

The city was one of seven across the state to receive a City Canvas grant, which are designed by the state to enhance public space through large-scale works of public art, the release said.

Pavia will flip the switch Saturday at 8 p.m. during an event to be held at the north entrance of the transportation center, 30 Station Place, the release said.
