Cassatt String Quartet Performs At Stamford's Treetops Chamber Society

STAMFORD, Conn. -- The Cassatt String Quartet joins forces with clarinetist Oskar Espina Ruiz for an afternoon concert on Sunday, March 22, at 4 p.m. at Treetops Chamber Music Society, 359 Merriebrook Lane, Stamford.

The program is titled "Songs Without Words" and features works by Osvaldo Golijov "Clarinet Quintet, The Dream and Prayers of Isaac the Blind;" Alexander Borodin "Quartet No. 2, Nocturne;" and Franz Schubert "Quartet D. 810, Death and the Maiden." 

Acclaimed as one of America’s outstanding ensembles, the Manhattan-based Cassatt String Quartet has performed throughout North America, Europe, and the Far East, with appearances at New York’s Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Tanglewood Music Theater, the Kennedy Center and Library of Congress in Washington, DC, the Theatre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and Maeda Hall in Tokyo.

The quartet has been presented on major radio stations such as National Public Radio’s Performance Today, Boston’s WGBH, New York’s WQXR and WNYC, and on Canada’s CBC Radio and Radio France.

The 2014-15 season highlights include its debut at the Beijing Modern Music Festival and appearances at the New York Botanical Gardens, Tenri Cultural Center, Bargemusic, Maverick Concerts and the Westchester Chamber Society, Music Mountain, Treetops Chamber Series, the Seal Bay Festival and their 9th annual Cassatt in the Basin educational chamber music residency.

The quartet has more than thirty CDs and YouTube postings. They are named for the celebrated American impressionist painter Mary Cassatt.
