“I sell toys for a living, what’s not to be happy about?” Nick Tarzia, owner of Stamford Toys said.

He added that since expanding the store earlier this year, he has noticed an added excitement, which should be even bigger with his usually busy shopping season. He said the creation and success of Small Business Saturday has helped bring people to his store and other Stamford stores.

“We’re more of a destination rather than an afterthought,” Tarzia said. He also has several deals going on to help bring people to the store, including 20 percent off all Melissa & Doug toys and giving Stamford Toys holiday shopping cards to schools and non-profits to sell.

Nagi Osta, owner of Nagi’s Jewelers, says he won’t make that many sales this weekend, but still is excited because he expects close to 200 people to come in Friday to see his new selection and to make their wish lists to start dropping hints to their significant others.

He also knows many people come back home to Stamford for Thanksgiving and decide to get engaged or want to buy gifts for family members and say, “Honey let’s go to our favorite jewelry store.”

Both also expect to have a successful 2012 holiday shopping season because the economy has improved in the area.

Tarzia said each holiday season has gotten a little bit better than the previous year since 2008, and expects this year to be a little better than 2011. He added more people are starting to spend a little extra now and that it should translate to shopping for the holidays.

“People are just getting back to normal,” Osta said referring to cleaning up after Hurricane Sandy and Election Day passing. “I am always optimistic.”
