He replaced Katherine A. Harris, who retired on June 30 after 29 years of service to the bank.

As president and chief operating officer, Granata will direct, control and coordinate the bank’s daily operations.

Through division/department heads, Granata’s responsibilities include retail and business banking, loan and deposit operations, risk/compliance management, marketing and human resources. He will participate in short- and long-term planning; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations; and participate in establishing the overall direction and mission of the bank.

“We’re very proud to have Bob Granata as our president and chief operating officer of First County Bank,” said Rey Giallongo, chairman and CEO of First County Bank. “He brings a wealth of banking experience to the position and has proved to be a strong strategic leader who will position the Bank for the future.”

“I am honored to become First County Bank’s president and COO. My challenge is to build upon our 160-plus years of banking and position ourselves as the ‘premiere bank of choice’ for those in the lower Fairfield County area,” Granata said. “I hope to continue in the footsteps of my predecessors who have developed and grown the bank successfully. I am excited to help to guide the bank to further its success in the communities it serves.”

Granata joined First County Bank in 2007 and has 27 years of financial services experience. He was recently selected as one of Connecticut Bankers Association’s New Leaders in Banking for 2014. Granata serves as a board member of Children’s Learning Center, a nonprofit agency in Stamford and has been serving since 2007. Granata lives in Trumbull with his wife and four sons.

First County Bank is an independent mutual community bank with 15 branches in Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk and Westport.
